Read up on Adat Jawa DMCA print cartridges court case. It's really disheartening to see Jawa Adat malays unable to speak proper malay. More importantly, its literary pages (which included mother stories or cerpen and poetry) set a standard of excellence. But, in realpolitik, Mastika was dying, and a new life-support system has to be in place. If only 5% of the readers were to read it, it will be a positive step and in the long run, heading the right direction.

It is a masterpierce of manupulating the fact fiction for those history-dummies. Good or bad, the common Malay prefers read fiction (hence the 300,000 copies per month). Not if material is for self-development. Johan has a take on this matter about the Malay readership : Call it dumbing-down of Malay readers.
